BACKGROUND

Caravan Hole

Located in the south parking lot in a former caravan park. During the Great Catacroker, it collapsed and was partially swallowed, thus opening up to the lower parking levels. The salvaged caravan remains were used to create structures that today form the “Caravan Hole” neighborhood, partly above ground and part underground.

Description

It is located in the south parking lot, in a former caravan parking area. During the Great Catacroker, it collapsed and was partially swallowed, thus connecting to the lower parking levels. The salvaged caravan remains were used to construct structures that today form the “Caravan Hole” department, partly above ground and partly underground.

It’s a favela-like neighborhood. A place full of con artists, outcasts who aren’t wanted anywhere else, and generally down-on-the-luck people. Because of its access to the surface, it’s also a hiring center for mercenaries, hitmen, and all kinds of scams. Both above ground and in the sunken area of the old parking lot are home to a multitude of diverse establishments and gambling dens. When it comes to business, anything goes, so it seems that factional rivalries in this area are forgotten as long as the deals are done.

The Caravan Hole actually holds something else. It houses the leader of a group composed of members of all the factions that make up what would be called “The Resistance.” They are individuals of all kinds, from different departments of the settlement, who disagree with what they understand as “the tyranny of the Sherif.” It is a secret group that devises its own plans to overthrow him, committing small attacks, having meeting places in each department, secret passages and tunnels, infiltrating all the groups, holding small rallies to recruit followers to their struggle, and so on. The identity of the leader of the Resistance is known only to those who demonstrate their loyalty to the cause, and the symbol by which they identify themselves is a kind of red “R,” which some secretly carry tattooed and which often appears in graffiti throughout the settlement.

Masca

Cornelius Selkin Masca of the Caravan Hole District is a former member of the Fifth Reich, who has risen to prominence, or fallen to prominence, depending on how you look at it. He never accepted the orders of his superiors and was constantly at odds with each other, which led him to be on the hook for rebellion on several occasions. He was eventually banished and ended up in MerKadome, where he prospered. He is quite an imposing figure, with a strong build and a well-groomed appearance. He may be very refined, but don’t be fooled by that, as he maintains order relentlessly.

Other personalities

Captain Igor Vasiliev
He commands the Marshals under the orders of the Sheriff of Merkadome. How he came to be, no one knows, but he seems to be trusted by the highest authority in the settlement. He was once a mercenary; his body and face are covered in scars. He is quick with a knife, and they say he is even quicker with a shot.

Favela Anderson
She is the sentimental partner (let’s call it that) of Cornelius Selkin (Caravan Hole Chewer). Her origins are uncertain but everything indicates that she was a ruthless gang member, some say a bit of a tomboy but if you meet her you won’t be able to take your eyes off her two huge reasons for having attracted Cornelius. She is also a fan of the Cartmageddon races where she participates as a runner and whenever she can she likes to play dirty.

Giorgio Klein
Owner of the Pink Oyster Club, he is tall, muscular, blond, blue-eyed, and very handsome… typical of the Blue Oyster gang. Some say he’s a very “freewheeling” man, but he’s been seen with both men and women, human and mutated… it’s more like anything goes for him.

Hans Téslison
Famous inventor, capable of creating anything and fanatical worshipper of his own god, “MacGuiver”. His doctrine has been passed down from master to apprentice since time immemorial, as has his most prized relic, “the Swiss Army knife”. Deep down, he is a renowned scrap metal master with a scruffy appearance and a scattered mind.

Ízaro the Skiny
No one knows his age, but he must be quite old, as his name comes from his wrinkled appearance. He is a strange, solitary, and ascetic mutard. He is frequently consulted as if he had the answers to everything, and perhaps he does, as it is known that he has certain powers. He dedicates himself to collecting all kinds of information, as if he were a historian, and he can be found in a rather dilapidated old trailer in the sunken area of the caravan park.

Jacke Matte
Shopper winner of the first season of Cartmageddon to which he participated, has found in Merkadome the place to settle and try to grow the sect to which only he belongs, spreading the word of the new messiah Van Damme, who will come from the future to save those who join his cause.

Jimbo Williams

If Merkadome were a prison, Jimbo would be “the guy who gets things.” He’s not very well-known and doesn’t make much of a fuss, but if you need anything, whether inside or outside Merkadome, Jimbo will surely get it for you. Just as if you realize you’re missing something… it’s probably him too, though you’ll be hard-pressed to prove it. Agile, slippery, and silent, but if you buy him a drink, you’ll have the best friend in the world for the duration.

Buildings

Merkadome Stagecoach Station
It is located above ground in a sort of prefabricated old hangar on the outskirts of Caravan Hole. Traveling across the wasteland has never been safe, but the Merkadome Stagecoach Station has established communication routes with other settlements such as Junkbridge, Sinagua, Latiesa, Fort Germania, etc.
From the remains of caravans found, hitches for buffalo were adapted and a fleet of stagecoaches was created (four to be exact) that travel the various routes and are protected by a group of former retired hitmen who call themselves the Marshals. These former outlaws were condemned by the sheriff to the most terrible of deaths, but were given the option of exchanging that fate for a life dedicated to protecting trade routes. Today, they accompany caravans and perform other assigned missions such as transporting and guarding prisoners, conducting investigations, escorting dignitaries, and carrying out mail.

Hans’s Shack
In Agujero de Caravanas and near Torre Favela you can find Hans Téslison’s house where he works as an inventor and repairer.

Parish of the great Troma
Jacke Matte’s shack, whose name was inspired by the large and valuable collection of tapes with that name written on the cover that he found in a safe, hidden in a basement near Toresbrillantes. Thanks to the projector he got from a group of scrap metal dealers, as payment for his services as a mercenary archer, and the remains of an old bicycle with a dynamo, he plays them on one of the exterior walls of his shack.

Favela Tower

It’s the tallest building inside the Caravan Hole—if it can even be called a building, because its appearance is dilapidated, and although everyone says it’s safe and stable, it looks like it might collapse at any moment. It’s made up of a large number of containers and caravans stacked on top of each other, with scaffolding around them. It has terraces, railings, stairs, and even a rudimentary freight elevator. At the top of the tower is the home of Cornelius Serkin and his partner, Favela Anderson.

Premises

Ojkar Grill

In the outermost area of Agujero de Caravanas, there’s a small food stall—very small but well-known throughout the department and much of Merkadome. It serves takeout: grilled kingfish, salchipapas, galligarto sandwiches, and bags of gusalfredos. Early Wednesdays, people line up for the famous “Algóndibas de Tex’co” (Tex’co Gourmet Meatballs), which usually sell out quickly.

The Pink Oyster Club
Every neighborhood should have a place for drinks, sex, and fights. Agujero de Caravanas has its own. It seems that a former member of the Blue Oyster gang, with airs of grandeur and perhaps tired of receiving more than giving, decided to open a dive where there would be a place for everyone, without discrimination based on having three tits or worshipping God knows what. The building, rather than being a local, since it’s quite large, looks like an old biker bar and is located at the foot of Torre Favela. It’s run by Giorgio Klein.

Marshal’s Office
On the surface, at the outermost perimeter of the Caravan Hole area, lies the Marshal’s Office, a nice name for what it really is. It consists of a few shacks made from scrap metal and various scrap metal, with a sort of defensive wall protecting outsiders from entering the neighborhood. The Marshals are under the command of the Sherif and Captain Vasiliev.

Resources

Since part of the department is located outside the city and is connected to other settlements thanks to the stagecoach service, it’s a very commercial area. Although you can find all kinds of gambling dens here, many of its residents work elsewhere in the Merkadome, but it’s in Caravan Hole where they have their shack.
