The Cherife of Merkadome imposes law and order, especially order, from the Aquarium department.
Description
There was no instruction manual. Everything was downright worn and broken when the enthusiastic energy control team got to work. Through trial and error, a few deaths from crushing or electrocution, and the destruction of several turbines, they have managed to establish some protocols that keep some of them running.
More and more cracks are appearing in the dam around a darkened circular area they call “the eye” because of its shape. The surrounding area is filled with scaffolding. The despised Wallrats are working there to prevent a possible water leak that could destroy the settlement.
These leaks and the torrent that flows out of the greenhouse form the Meadero, a stinking stream of toxic water that runs through the settlement and separates the Lake Department from the Distillery.
Collecting taxes and donations for the maintenance of Merkadome (and the good life of the leaders, who are we kidding…) is hard work, but The Hand was created for this task. The Hand adopts three guilds, also called movements:
- The palm: Formed by beggars, who are located in key places throughout the settlement.
- The Snake: The pickpockets’ guild knows how to position their hands in a pincer grip. The most skilled are found here. Those who weren’t are now one-handed, or face a worse fate.
- The fist: In charge of collecting taxes and applying corrective measures to anyone who tries to cheat them.
Adjacent to The Distillery and near the Greenhouse, a large amphitheater that, like everything in Merkadome, has seen better days, continues to host both plays of dubious aesthetic taste and performances by famous bands on their extensive tours throughout the Wasteland. The debris from the last time Shit for You passed through here is still being collected.
In the farthest reaches of the settlement, where the dome collapsed and is less explored, lies The Circus. A place filled with unique sporting events on which you can bet all your money. The most famous of these is Cartmageddon.
Near its facilities, everyone can find the most suitable clothing for their needs in the large Macvs souk. Athletes can find the best sports equipment, while the elite can access deluxe Parameña clothing at the famous headquarters of the high-end choni clothing chain Louis Puttón. Anyone is invited to stop by and enjoy the bargain hunting or the chance to see who just bought that item they’ve been wanting.
Masca
The Cherif maintains a fragile balance. And although there are dissenting voices regarding how he runs Merkadome, no one tries to contradict him, at least not to his face.
Other personalities
The Master of Ceremonies directs the circus. With his performances, you never know where his act ends and the show begins.
